RIBO regulates the licensing, professional competence, ethical conduct and insurance related financial obligation of all independent general insurance brokers in the province of Ontario. As part of its mandate as a self-governing, self-supporting organization, RIBO provides support through its communications initiatives.
The RIBO Reference Manual is designed to assist brokers in their day-to-day activities.
The Reference Manual which is made up of RIBO requirements, policies, guidelines, and compliance resources. In support of RIBO’s public protection mandate, this Reference Manual provides resources and guidance to all brokers, not just Principal Brokers. All licensees, including MGAs and Wholesalers are expected to comply with these requirements.
The Reference Manual provides compliance tools and resources in the following four areas:
- Principal Broker Handbook – A review of the duties and expectations for Principal Brokers, Deputy Principal Brokers and Supervising Brokers.
- RIBO Guidelines – A set of numbered guidance documents covering topics such as requirements related to the use of unlicensed insurers, marketing guidelines, sharing the Principles of Conduct, and Fair treatment of consumers. All up to date guidance may be found on this page.
- Code of Conduct Handbook – The Code of Conduct Handbook is intended to assist licensees in interpreting the Code of Conduct.
- Forms and Fact Sheets – RIBO has established a set of required forms for licensees’ use.
