October 15, 2024 – As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the exam process and supporting exam-takers, Council approved providing exam-takers with additional reference materials during their exams. This change took effect October 1, 2024, meaning that all examinees from that date forward have access to these resources.
This document includes:
- Ontario Automobile Policy (OAP 1)
- RIBO By-Laws No. 1, No. 2, No. 3
- Registered Insurance Brokers Act (RIB Act)
- Ontario Regulation 308/98, 990, 991
These resources are available for all exams, with exceptions for policies not relevant to specific exam content. For instance, if the exam does not cover auto-related material, the Ontario Automobile Policy (OAP 1) will be excluded from the consolidated resource. This ensures that only the applicable policies are available during each exam, simplifying the reference materials for examinees.
Reason for the Change
This change is designed to encourage examinees to familiarize themselves with these resources before the exam, providing them with a valuable reference tool during the test and after. While the consolidated resource will be accessible during the exam, it is important to understand that relying on these documents without prior knowledge can slow down your ability to answer questions effectively. Having a deep understanding of the rules and their implications before exam day will allow for more efficient use of the reference materials.
Why an Open-Book Exam?
We have adopted an ‘open-book’ approach to reflect real-world practices in the brokerage field. In everyday work, brokers have access to policies and other resources to guide their decision-making. By allowing access to these resources during exams, we aim to create a more practical testing environment. However, it is important to note that simply having the documents available won’t guarantee success. The questions are designed to assess your understanding and application of the material, so familiarity with these policies is crucial.
Consolidated Resource Availability
The consolidated PDF document is available during exams and accessible for free on our website. We encourage all candidates and industry professionals to take advantage of this resource to study and familiarize themselves with the material well in advance of their exam date.
